Get Well Soon Owen

No doubt you have heard the Owen Wilson story. I am not going to get into the speculation about what happened for two reasons: 1) it's not relevant to this blog; and 2) more importantly, it's none of our business. Let's ALL respect Owen's wishes and just let him get through this. Owen, we all hope you get well soon. Now on to what this blog is about - here are my five favorite Owen Wilson movies (in no particular order):

Meet the Parents (2000)

Not technically an Owen Wilson movie, but he steals the show in several scenes as the ex-boyfriend of Gaylord "Greg" Focker's fiance.

Starsky and Hutch (2004)

How many movies have Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson appeared in together? Somebody find out. "Do it."

Armageddon (1998)

Part of an ensemble cast in one of the loudest movies ever. Its just great entertainment as far as I'm concerned. Owen's got some great lines in this flick. "That's all you had to say, scariest environment imaginable."

Bottle Rocket (1996)

Our introduction to Owen, his brother Luke and director Wes Anderson. Owen was also a co-writer with Anderson. "Why do you have tape on your nose?" "Exactly."

Wedding Crashers (2005)

Probably my favorite. Two of the "Frat Pack" at their best.

Back to Campus Movies

Well, it's that time of year again. College students head back to campus and those of us who are no longer on campus wish we were. There was nothing like the start of a new year and I miss it. In honor of the great annual migration back to school, here are my top ten college movies of all time:

10. Son in Law (1993)

Pauly Shore's shtick was funny at one time. You can't deny that. Unfortunately, this was his only decent movie (Encino Man has some redeeming qualities though). A movie about not fitting in at school, and then realizing you don't really fit in at home. Ok, it was really about using Shore's popularity at the time to make some money. They did.

9. Good Will Hunting (1997)

About a guy who should have been in college instead of being a laborer. Actually, he belonged in graduate school, or in an institution being studied. Will didn't fit in anywhere, did he? He was too smart for his friends and too smart for college. At least he finally just left it all behind. Did he ever get the girl?

8. Rudy (1993)

Sacrifice, following your dreams, football and, most importantly, college. What's not to love?

7. PCU (1994)

This is one underrated movie. Jeremy Piven is hilarious in this flick. He also appears in a movie a little further up the list. "Don't be that guy!" Ok, in this case, maybe it would be cool to be that guy.

6. Road Trip (2000)

This flick is hilarious. 'Nuff said. Blueberry pancakes anyone?

5. American Pie 2 (2001)

You may have worked hard during those summers in between semesters to earn some money, but there was also a lot of fun to be had as well. They had a lot of fun.

4. Breaking Away (1979)

Great flick and one that doesn't get mentioned enough. Another movie about not being able to fit in ANYWHERE.

3. Back To School (1986)

Next to Caddyshack, Rodney Dangerfield's best flick. "You look like the poster child for birth control." Classic.

2. Animal House (1978)

Not much needs to be said. One of the greatest comedies of all time (obviously). Featuring the greatest performance of John Belushi's career. Name one other actor who could have been cast as Bluto? You can't do it. Plus, it has one of the greatest lines in film history - "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son."

1. Old School (2003)

It was a close call between this flick and Animal House. Let's just say I can relate. Who wouldn't love to go back and do it again? The sight of Vince Vaughn on the rings with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth is a great cinematic moment. "You're my boy Blue!"

The End (Again)

Here is yet another list of great movie endings. This time, its a Top 50 list from Filmcritic.com. I wholeheartedly agree with a lot of the films on this list. Especially the authors' opinion about The Blair Witch Project. But, no Sixth Sense? How about some love for Saving Private Ryan?? Obviously this list contains major spoilers, so skip the flicks you haven't seen. I will be developing my own list (which will take a little time but will be worth the wait). How about getting some discussion going on the greatest movie endings? Feel free to submit your own lists. For now, enjoy this one.

It's All About the Ending

I will post flicks lists from other bloggers (if anyone wants to guest post, e-mail me) from time to time. I found this list of the Greatest Movie Endings ever over at /film. The most recent movie included in the list is Breach, which I haven't seen yet, so I obviously didn't read that description (it's No. 10). Some interesting selections. This list just goes to show you how different people are affected in different ways by movies. Check it out.
